India’s first woman DGP Kanchan chaudhary bhattacharya , once when she was a young girl, her father got badly beaten up over a property dispute. Without influence and from a humble background ,she pleaded to cops to help her, but they wouldn’t budge and refused to register an FIR . That’s  when she decided to become an IPS officer.

DGP who died at 72  in Mumbai hospital  late Monday night after an illness, left much more than her soft side as her legacy. Bhattacharya’s story was one of womwn’s empowerment immortalized in ‘Udaan’ a TV show that aired on Doordarshan between 1989 and 1991. An entire generation followed the struggles of its protagonist-the role of IPS office kalyani singh was played by bhattacharya’s own sister kavita chaudhary-as she navigated the world of crime and faced up to her trials and tribulation.

Kanchan chaudhary was just not and officer,  she was a revolution for many womans with the purpose of empowering them.
