A 29-year-old man, who works for an I-T firm in Gulbai Tekra, filed a complaint with city police accusing nine persons of cheating him of Rs 16.39 lakh using the false promise of a housing loan.

Gaurang Patel, a resident of New Ranip, stated in his complaint lodged at Gujarat University police station on Tuesday, that he first got a call from a person from one “Union Services Private Limited” who offered him a housing loan of Rs 50 lakh on April 11, 2016. As he wanted to buy a house, he agreed to take the loan from the firm. For this, he sent a cheque of Rs 11,235 to the company towards “processing fees”.

After some time, someone from the company sent him a demand draft of Rs 2.98 lakh, after this Patel got confidence in the company and kept sending them money whenever they asked for it.

Between April 2016 and March 2018, seven other persons called him and demanded various amounts. He paid a total of Rs 16.39 lakh either by demand draft or NEFT. As the company did not disburse his housing loan till August, he lodged a complaint for cheating and breach of trust against nine persons whose names and addresses are not known.
